"Creating a Hunger for God"

Ingredients:
The Lord promises to delight in our hunger for Him:

“Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men, for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.” Psalm 107: 8-9
What He needs from us:
a.) Belief in Him
b.) Right spirit
c.) Pure, focused heart

Preparation:
How can we hunger for our Lord?

1.) Bind out distractions that will keep you from walking with God.
Find a quiet place you can revel in his presence, and keep that place sacred (perhaps a special chair, closet, kitchen floor…).  Turn off cell phones, pagers, etc., and get in His word. If you have children, create a family ritual that includes quiet time with God each day. Model the example that spending time with God should be a priority. John 6:35 reminds us that: “ I (Jesus) am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never go thirsty.”*

2.) Be selfish with your time. Write out a list of all the things you accomplish in a week.  Put a check mark next to each thing that can lead another person to Jesus.  Use this as a standard for prioritizing your schedule in the coming weeks. Afterall, our goal is to bring others closer to our Savior, not to see how much we can do to bring glory to ourselves.

3.) Lay down your own burdens in your life to God.
Release control of whatever is weighing you down.  Communicate your needs to God first and then find a Christian support system to spiritually build you up. Galatians 6:2 reveals this truth: “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”  *Parenthesis mine.
