“Standing Firm in the Silence”

Gird yourself, stand firm.  God can make a way when there seems to be no way.  When I think of the impossibility of situations in the human sense, in the sense of what I can do, I become overwhelmed and feel a pressure on my chest to where I have difficulty breathing and thinking, and all I want to do is throw up my hands and quit.  But when I allow God to show me what He is doing and how He is leading, He reminds me that He can make a way when there seems to be no way.  He can orchestrate changes and master what seem to be impossible situations into God-ordained miracles.   I have almost always embraced change because change helps me grow mentally and spiritually.

About a year ago, God started preparing my heart for a change; I sensed that He was going to move us away from Texas.  In May, we received a call from my husband’s employer asking us to relocate to Maryland.   Two weeks later, we placed our home on the market “FOR SALE”.   I must admit, though I know and understand that God is guiding us and leading the way, my biggest concern has been in moving so far away from our daughters and their families.   Our two daughters, Aubrey & Kendall, have married and moved into new homes about 30 minutes away from us.  God has given me a peace that He will provide for and take care of these two families, and we have complete faith that He will honor that promise.

Now that our home has been on the market for two months, we wait.  And what I “hear” is the silence of God.  He revealed to us, a little at a time, where He is taking us, and now He is silent.  And I must ask, “Why the silence, Lord?  Why the silence?  I know you are here; I sense your presence and your protection and I am confident of your provision.  But I don’t understand the silence.”

In "My Utmost for His Highest", Oswald Chambers explains this silence: "His silence is the sign that He is bringing you into an even more wonderful understanding of Himself.  When you cannot hear God, you will find that He has trusted you in the most intimate way possible - with absolute silence, not a silence of despair, but one of pleasure, because He saw that you could withstand an even bigger revelation.  If God has given you a silence, then praise Him - He is bringing you into the mainstream of His purposes...A wonderful thing about God's silence is that His stillness is contagious - it gets into you, causing you to become perfectly confident so that you can honestly say, "I know that God has heard me."  His silence is the very proof that He has... If Jesus Christ is bringing you into the understanding that prayer is for the glorifying of His Father, then He will give you the first sign of His intimacy - silence."  (October 11 devotional)

I encourage you today, if you are waiting on the Lord for your circumstances to be changed; if you are waiting on the Lord for 'your' miracle, stand firm and keep the faith.  God will NOT fail you.  He is faithful.  Keep praying and believing; keep praising and thanking Him.  God can make a way when there seems to be no way.  Believe.
