Glimpses

(written

"Are
we Just Half
Smart?"
The
human mind is a strange
thing. It is the force that has propelled mankind from walking in
the dust, to walking on the moon and possibly one day, beyond.
Each
of us can think, recall, store, analyze and rationalize. No other
creature on earth has this capability. No computer can even come
close to the capabilities and complexities of the human brain.
And
yet, we can control our brains and overcome that little voice inside,
convincing
ourselves of things that are illogical, illegal, immoral are O.K. for
us,
in order to satisfy our own desires, goals and egos. This makes
me
wonder if we are really just half smart?
For
example: Let’s say
that I own an airline. We can call it “The 50/50 Airline.” The
rates
are quite similar to those of other air carriers. The personal
service
that we deliver is also quite similar. We fly virtually anywhere
that you might want to go. The thing that makes “50/50” different
is that our planes only get to their destinations about one-half the
time!
Why, we’ve lost not only planes, but the entire crews, not to mention
all
the passengers. I’ll admit, we’ve had more than our share of
mishaps.
Some people view crashed planes as being more than a mishap. We
like
to downplay these little inconveniences and simply call them mishaps.
We
try to maintain an optimistic view.
Confidentially,
would you fly
our airline? No? Is it our rates? Are they too
high?
If we could cut them in half, would you fly with us? Assuming
that
we could find a way to cut rates a little more than half their current
price, would that make you a “50/50 Airline customer? What?
Where’s your sense of adventure? Are you worried about being a
fatality?
We are all going to die sometime, right?
I think
everyone is too smart
to fly “50/50.” It would be stupid to place your life in the
hands
of such an inept company. There is a 50% chance you will make it
to destination, but on the other hand, there is a like 50% chance that
you will not. “50/50 Airlines” can shut their doors. No one
is going to risk flying with a company like that.
Let’s
look at another scenario.
There are those who proclaim that there is no God. How, after
just
a few short years of walking this earth someone “knows” this, is beyond
my comprehension. They cannot attest to this with any degree of
accuracy,
so let’s say that under the circumstances, there is a 50/50% chance
that
there is no God. If you doubt the existence of God, even at a
50/50
chance of being right, is your brain functioning properly? We
have
just ascertained that there is no way we’re flying “50/50 Airlines,”
and
now we have convinced ourselves, or have been convinced by others, that
there is only a 50% chance of there being a God. There is no way
we would put our lives on the line with that faulty airline, but now we
adamantly place our existence throughout all eternity on the
line!
As the Airline asked, “We’re all going to die sometime, right?”
That
is a certainty!
Where
will you spend eternity?
Real estate advertisements and sales people are always conscious of
location.
When it comes to eternity, location is everything!
God
clearly tells us that he
will not always try to get us to come to him. NOW, He says is the
accepted time; behold, NOW is the day of salvation. The manner in
which He asks us to acknowledge Him is to admit to Him that we are less
perfect than He is PERFECT (in other words a sinner). Then He
asks
that we acknowledge that His only son, Jesus, came out of love to give
up His perfect life as a sacrifice for our shortcomings, died on a
cross,
spilling His blood as a cleansing for our misdeeds, and that He rose
again
on the third day – triumphant over death forevermore! Request Him
to save you, right where you are – now – turn your life over to Him,
and
receive what He did for you as a GIFT! Salvation cannot be
purchased
or earned. It is the GIFT of God, through Christ, for all who
will
receive it!
You
know yourself better than
anyone else. Look inward. Are you only half smart, and
registered
to fly “50/50 ETERNAL AIRLINES?” If so, the consequences are far
worse than advertised!
