“Proud Daddy”
December 2003

It’s that time of year when we get a little more sentimental. We think of births and babies and gifts and memories…

Last Sunday I was sitting next to my Music Minister and his son Ben. My Music Minister tapped my shoulder and signaled for me to look down at what his son had written. He had written the name “Jesus”. It was written with the J backwards but his daddy and I both knew that name. I looked up at his daddy’s face. He beamed with pride. His Son had written the name of our Savior and Lord. Although, Brad (my music minister) did not say it out loud, I heard the words, “That’s my son and I love him and I’m so proud of him.”

At the end of the service, Brad got up to worship with another song. Many were making decisions in their hearts and in prayer throughout the room. I looked up at Brad, the proud daddy, on the stage. Then I looked up further. There on two thrones, I saw God and Jesus. God leaned over and tapped Jesus’ shoulder and said, “ That’s my son and I love him and I’m so proud of him.” God was pleased with Brad’s obedience to serve Him.

It makes me think of the time God looked down and what He said about His only Son Jesus. John had just baptized Jesus in the river Jordan. The Spirit of God had descended on Him, And a voice came down from heaven: “ You are my Son, whom I love, and I am well-pleased with you!”Mark 1:10-11

This Christmas season remember that God loves you. His pleasure is when we are obedient in our relationship with His Son Jesus. Whether it be serving Him through your church or in your home or wherever you sense His leading. God’s leaning over to Jesus and whispering in His ear about YOU! “That’s my kid and I love her/him so!”

I love you. Remember…”Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight the paths for Him.” Mark 1:3
