A
Case for Trust
by: Diana Roth
Diana Roth of Greenville,
S.C.
I just want to thank my heavenly Father for
hearing and answering my prayers. I have had a lot of prayers answered
in the last 12 months, but I have also prayed more this past year than
ever before. For many years, I had an intellectual understanding
that I was supposed to “be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer
and supplication with thanksgiving” let my requests be made known to God.
(Phil. 4:6) During the last year, something very special happened.
That intellectual understanding finally became a heart knowledge.
For instance, when I pray for God’s wisdom and guidance at work now, I
believe that He will give me exactly what I need to be successful each
day. I don’t believe it the way I believe I might lose 20 pounds
in a year (got those fingers crossed), but believe it the way I believe
my direct deposit is going to show up in my checking account on pay day
– the thought that it might not really happen never crosses my mind.
Trusting in my Father’s care for me has helped
me to relax more at work. When I am not abiding in Him, it is evident
by the end of the day. The stress crawls up my neck and jumps up
and down on those muscles between my shoulder blades. However, on
the days when I keep a constant, hour-by-hour focus on God’s goodness and
power in my life, I experience a sensation similar to that of being wrapped
in a goose down quilt on an early spring morning. When I consider
how God not only freed Israel from slavery in Egypt, but also met all their
needs for 40 years in the desert, my doubts dissolve. He daily provided
food and water for over a million people FOR FORTY YEARS! A God like
this can and should be trusted, and that is what He requires of me – trust.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.”
(Prov. 3:5-6)
The World doesn’t understand this concept
of simple trust in God. The god of this world has his own convinced
that they must work their way to heaven. He is demanding, driving,
exacting, without empathy or any concern for humankind’s welfare.
He uses lots of neon to mesmerize men to obedience, his promises are only
shiny, hollow baubles, and the mantra with which he brainwashes is “he
who gets the most wins.” Children of God may not get many of the
baubles of this life, but they have a promise of a glorious home in the
next life, and the daily joy of knowing the power of the great “I AM” is
only a prayer away.
