NEEDHIM

“How Great is Our God ”
April 2006

One day this past week , I decided to shower early and go down to the stream and read God's word to see what God had for me.  I have felt that when I've tried for the last few days to read his Word, it's been me and he was not present.  I first read a prayer a friend had written that said, “Let your living waters flow”.  And as I was sitting by the stream and the water was flowing, I thought “okay, this is good”.  As I started journaling, a new song popped into my head, How Great is Our God, by Chris Tomlin.  Tears came to my eyes as I knew God was speaking to me.  I stopped writing  and sang as the tears were flowing.  God is so good.

In Jeremiah 18, The Lord gave this message to Jeremiah.  He said "Go down to the shop where clay pots and jars are made.  I will speak to you while you are there. So I did as he told me and found the potter working at his wheel.  But the jar he was making did not turn out as he had hoped, so the potter squashed the jar into a lump of clay and started again.”  God tells us he wants to mold us in his likeness like molding a jar from a piece of clay.  If we start doing evil and not good, disobeying him and turning from him, he can squash that jar and start all over again.  His desire is just the opposite, he wants to bless us and give us life more abundantly.  God wants to mold in us beauty, love, peace, and joy.  We need to take time with God to let him create in us his goodness, let him transform the ugly into beauty so we can open our eyes to see ALL of his blessings.  He's waiting for us.  How GREAT is our God.  Great enough to transform the ugliest part of our being into a Masterpiece, a great sculpture.  At the 2006 Dragonfly Ministries retreat, we learned  we are His Bride, His Princess.  Thank you God.  We just need to take the time to let him in.

Why go to a spiritual retreat?  Spend money for travel and lodging?  Be away from our families and oh, all the things we need to do (cleaning, errands etc.)?  I'll tell you why.  Our lives are so busy, we can never get it all done and we just get overwhelmed with life in general.  In my life, God is the first to be put on the back burner.  He can wait.  So what happens?  I'm not spending time in his Word or most importantly, in his presence.  Let me tell you, at the Retreat you are overwhelmed by His presence.  This overwhelming feeling is so much better than being overwhelmed by housework.  To worship three days alone with God, feel his presence, forget about all your worries.  It just does something to your spirit.  At least it did for me.  It's renewing, refreshing and exciting.  I remembered why I'm on this earth to begin with and God has a plan for me and it has nothing to do with cleaning toilets or dishes or laundry.  Praise God.  I'm beginning today to let God work on this Masterpiece.

I want to thank all the Ladies on the Dragonfly Ministry team that made this possible.  Christy, thank you for getting me there and back safely.   Cindy and Mary, thank you for praying for me 40 days before the Retreat.  Martha for your special Godly words of wisdom, “Just Do Something” rings in my ears often.  Jen and Kelly the songs I keep hearing over and over brings me to my knees in praise.  This retreat has transformed my life.  I can't wait for next year's Retreat so I can tell you what God has done.
