Alone in a Crowded Room

Alone in a crowded room
People all around, but
no one acknowledges me
I smile as they walk past,
I speak words of greeting
Yet no one stops to speak,
no one returns the smile.
How can a crowded room be
so lonely?
How can a smiling face
go unnoticed?
“Lord, it seems that the
crowd may be lonelier than I
For though they have others
by their side, on their arm,
Their emptiness shows through
their frowns, their faces
And the loneliness I felt,
Lord, because I stand here alone, fades.
Because – all in all –
I have you
And you are indeed the
greatest friend of all.”
“Oh Lord, in your fullness,
come to me,
Shine on me, your beauty,
that I not feel alone
Sing in my heart, that
I know you care
And remind me with your
abounding presence
That you are here.
And that I am not alone
in this crowded room.”
