“Endure the Night”
written
by
Barb Price
It was dark.
I was alone, cold
and afraid.
‘You said you’d never leave me!’ I
shouted
So why did I feel abandoned?
I’d had enough, ‘End this trial!' I demanded.
Seconds passed but they felt like hours.
‘God…I can’t take it anymore…’ I
pleaded.
Then I heard something, a song maybe.
It was soft, peaceful, soothing.
I couldn’t hear it before when I was shouting.
But now it filled the air.
This was like no music I had ever heard.
It comforted me, warmed me.
Then I heard a voice,
‘My Child, I have never left your side.
You were too busy to notice me, too loud to hear my voice.
Now open your eyes. It’s over.’
I opened my eyes but
it was still dark.
‘God, I thought you said it was over.’
He replied,
‘When will you learn, you must first endure the night.’
Moments passed and
nothing happened, then suddenly, the sky started to
change. It went from a bleak mass of blackness to a stunning
sunrise.
‘God you were right, it’s over.’
‘Yes, the darkness is gone, just as I promised. But
darkness or light, I’ll always be there. Just be still.
You won’t always feel me.
Nonetheless I am right by your side.’
