"The Last Poem by E.J. Gray"
written by
E.J. Gray (Dec. 3, 2006)

Dear God, Sometimes it's hard to stay strong,
hanging on to this rope, between right and what's wrong.
Only when troubling winds blow and it sways
those are the times that I kneel down to pray.
And Lord, for too long,
I've been living this way.

When I was the age of twenty-five years young,
there was something that went wrong with my lung.
I swore that if You'd help pull me through,
that I would start climbing the ladder towards you.
Instead, I got stuck on a very low rung
before I got to repay what was due.

And Lord, there are many more times in my life,
when you reached down and pulled me up out of my strife.
The time that you carried me through a divorce,
by guiding me, with some help, back onto Your course,
but I cut, with a knife,
all of that help from the source.

A couple years later, in two-thousand and three,
I heard you again, Lord, speaking to me.
So then, on my knees, I knelt.
You lead me to write down just what I felt,
and allow others to see
into that hole where I dwelt.

Through my writings, Dear Lord, you've opened my eyes,
and I think that I have finally realized,
that I should treat this as more than a game,
it's not about fortune, and it ain't about fame,
it's about breaking through my disguise,
so I'll start to use my real name ...

...Lord, I'd just like to thank you again
for all of my family and all of my friends,
who continued to love me despite all my sin,
the ones that could see the real me within,
I'll strive to do bettern than I did back then,
and I know I can do it with your help. Amen.
